VOLTAGE, known as festival, agency and label, will release a compilation of 27 techno artists living in Belgium. Founder Steven Van Belle aka. Parallel Circuit started this project to support artists who are financially affected by the corona virus and takes the opportunity to prove the fact that many top producers live in Belgium.
The music and event sector is facing the most challenging period in its long history. Clubs and event venues must close, as well as record stores and events around the world are being cancelled or postponed. As the world’s norms are flipped, countless new ideas and collaborations see the light of day. Many offline initiatives are given a second life online, in the form of live streams, #savethesummer, daily podcasts and virtual events.
It has never been VOLTAGE’s habit to sit still. On April 30th they will release a compilation with 27 tracks of both national and international techno artists living in Belgium and suffering financially from the health crisis. 75% of the profits will be distributed directly and equally among the artists.
Steven Van Belle explains: “We want to start a new fundraising project that can really have an impact on our scene. The aim of ‘Transistor’ – that will be the name of the compilation – is to compensate artists who are experiencing big losses, e.g. because they were working towards a peak, because their booking has been cancelled or because they have just launched a track and no longer have the ability to play it for thousands of festival goers. With this financial push, I sincerely hope they can continue doing what they do best: making music and entertaining people.”
Van Belle continues: “I also want to prove to techno enthusiasts that many top producers live in Belgium. I believe that we need to be proud of this fact. No fewer than 27 artists have signed up for the project and together they will cover the entire techno spectrum. For example, Border One and Kr!z will be responsible for the melodic techno part, Atis and Sonhan are known for their ambient side and you may expect neoacid music at 140 BPM from Jacidorex and X&trick. My team will take care of the coherence and structure. For the mastering, we’re able to work with one of the best sound engineers in the world: Conor Dalton. Thanks to his impressive record – he has worked with Daft Punk, Carl Craig, Ricardo Villalobos, Gary Beck, Slam and Pan-Pot in the past – we expect a lot from him. By the way, he is so enthusiastic about the project that he offers us a big discount.”
Phaze Øne will be the designer of the compilation and N.E.W.S. will take care of the distribution.
The compilation and individual tracks will be offered online through Bandcamp, online shops and all streaming platforms. A single tracks cost € 1.5 and the compilation will be available for only € 20. Van Belle has one last tip for all techno fanatics: “If you want to save money and show solidarity, I recommend you to buy the full compilation. (winks) ”
